prepare for
corporate headshot photography

A corporate headshot is more than just a photo. It represents you, your professionalism and your brand.
To help you feel confident and ready, here are my tips for preparing for your session.
1. Know your purpose
- Think about where the headshot will be used: company website, LinkedIn, annual report or marketing.
- Check your company’s branding and dress code so your look aligns.
- Decide how formal or relaxed the style should be.
2. Choose the right outfit
- Stick with classic, well-fitted pieces such as a blazer or business shirt.
- Colours: neutrals like navy, grey, black or white, plus one accent tone that suits you or your company brand.
- Avoid loud patterns or shiny fabrics.
- Ensure everything is clean and pressed.
3. Grooming and presentation
- Hair: trim or style a day or two before.
- Facial hair: keep it neat and consistent with your usual look.
- Skin: moisturise and use natural tones if you wear makeup. Avoid heavy shine.
- Glasses: clean thoroughly, and if glare is an issue, let me know.
- Jewellery: keep it simple and professional.
4. Rest and hydrate
- Get a good night’s sleep.
- Drink plenty of water for a few days beforehand.
- Eat something light before your session so you feel comfortable.
5. Bring options
- A second shirt, tie, scarf or jacket can give variety.
- Layers allow for both formal and approachable looks.
6. Pay attention to details
- Clothes should fit properly, not too tight or loose.
- Check collars, seams and labels.
- Avoid colours near the face that reflect badly on skin tone.
7. Expression and posture
- Stand or sit tall, shoulders back but relaxed.
- Hands should feel natural, not forced.
- Aim for an approachable professional expression. A small smile often works best.
- Practise in a mirror if it helps.
8. Communicate with me
- Show me examples of headshots you like.
- Let me know what you want to avoid.
- Discuss background options and where the photo will be used.
9. Last touch-ups
- Bring a hairbrush, powder or blotting paper, and lip balm.
- Do a final check before we start: glasses, hair, collars and jacket.
10. Relax and be yourself
- Confidence shows. Take a few deep breaths if you feel tense.
- Trust the process. I will guide you through posing, lighting and expression.
